Dongdaemun Shopping Hours: Retail Malls and the Night Wholesale Market

Which Dongdaemun buildings sell to visitors and which trade with shop owners overnight, when each one opens and closes, where to claim the tax back, and how to plan an evening around it.

Dongdaemun’s shopping buildings keep two sets of hours. The retail malls, which sell to anyone, open around 10:30 a.m.: Doota Mall closes at midnight and shuts only around Seollal and Chuseok, Migliore closes at 2 a.m. and shuts on Mondays, and Hyundai Outlets Dongdaemun closes at 9 p.m. (9:30 p.m. Friday to Sunday). The wholesale buildings, such as APM, APM Place and DDP Fashion Mall, trade from about 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night to Thursday night, and sell stock to shop owners. To buy a single piece, shop the retail malls; go to the wholesale buildings to see the night trade, not to count on a sale. The station is Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, on Lines 2, 4 and 5.

Which Dongdaemun malls are retail, and when are they open?

Six buildings sell to anyone: Doota (10:30 a.m. to midnight), Migliore (to 2 a.m., closed Mondays) and Hello apM (to 1 a.m., closed Tuesdays) on Jangchungdan-ro across from DDP; Hyundai Outlets Dongdaemun and Dundun nearby (to about 9 p.m.); and nyunyu on Majang-ro (to 5 a.m.). Their hours:

Mall Address Hours Closed
Doota Mall (두타몰) 275 Jangchungdan-ro 10:30 a.m. to midnight; Nike to 2 a.m. The day before and the day of Seollal and Chuseok
Migliore (밀리오레) 263 Jangchungdan-ro 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays; holiday and summer breaks announced separately
Hello apM (헬로에이피엠) 253 Jangchungdan-ro 10:20 a.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesdays (from midnight Monday night to 10:20 a.m. Wednesday)
Hyundai Outlets Dongdaemun (현대아울렛 동대문점) 20 Jangchungdan-ro 13-gil Monday to Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday to Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Seollal and Chuseok days
Dundun Dongdaemun (던던 동대문점) 264 Eulji-ro Shops 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; 7th-floor cafe and pub to 11 p.m. Seollal and Chuseok days
nyunyu (뉴뉴) 34 Majang-ro, floors 1 to 3 11 a.m. to 5 a.m. Open every day

Doota is the one to plan a late evening around: it says it has no regular holidays, and the B2 food court runs to 10 p.m. (last order 9:30 p.m.). Hyundai Outlets Dongdaemun is the early-closing department-store-style option; the council’s listing gives its closures as the days of Seollal and Chuseok. Dundun, which opened on September 27, 2024 in the former Lotte Fitin building, has Uniqlo on the first floor, a Daiso on the third, and shoes and sportswear on the fourth and fifth.

nyunyu is an accessories store on three floors at 34 Majang-ro, east of the DDP on the same street as APM. The Korea Tourism Organization lists the Dongdaemun store as open 11 a.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Sunday, accepting credit cards and offering both immediate and after-purchase tax refunds. Of the retail stores above, it is the only one open after 2 a.m.

Is Migliore Dongdaemun still open in 2026?

Yes. Migliore’s management body gives the shopping floors’ hours as 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and weekends, closed on Mondays, and posted its 2026 Lunar New Year opening notice in February 2026. The tourist zone council’s listing adds that holiday and summer-break closures are announced separately, and lists women’s clothing on the first to third floors, men’s clothing on the fourth, bags, belts, jewelry and eyewear on the fifth, folk crafts, a K-pop shop, socks and phone cases on the sixth, and shoes on the seventh. Some older listings, such as the Korea Tourism Organization’s, still give a 4:30 a.m. close and no closing day; follow the management body’s hours.

Which Dongdaemun buildings are wholesale, and when do they open?

Most wholesale buildings are in Sindang-dong, east of the DDP around Majang-ro, or along Cheonggyecheon Stream, and most open at 8 p.m. or at midnight.

Building Address Hours Trading nights
APM (에이피엠) 40 Majang-ro 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights (last session ends Friday 5 a.m.)
APM Luxe (에이피엠럭스) 51 Toegye-ro 73-gil 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights (last session ends Friday 5 a.m.)
APM Place (에이피엠플레이스) 276 Eulji-ro 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights (last session ends Friday 5 a.m.)
DDP Fashion Mall (디디피패션몰) 22 Majang-ro 8:10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights (last session ends Friday 5 a.m.)
Designer Club (디자이너크럽) 72 Eulji-ro 45-gil 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday to Friday nights
Nuzzon (누죤) 62 Eulji-ro 45-gil 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday to Friday nights (closed Saturday 6 p.m. to Sunday 8 p.m.)
DIOT (디오트) 293 Dasan-ro Midnight to noon Monday to Friday, from midnight (closed Friday noon until it reopens at 11:50 p.m. Sunday)
Cheong Pyeonghwa Market (청평화시장) 334 Cheonggyecheon-ro Midnight to noon Monday to Friday, from midnight (closed Saturday and Sunday)
Pyeonghwa Market (평화시장) 274 Cheonggyecheon-ro 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. the next day Closed Sundays and Friday nights (6 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday)

DIOT and Cheong Pyeonghwa run from midnight to noon, and Pyeonghwa Market from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. the next day, so those three, among the buildings above, are still trading after breakfast on a weekday.

APM Group’s 2022 plan to move APM, APM Place and APM Luxe to daytime trading has been shelved: in January 2026, Korea Textile News reported that the three kept the night session, and that DIOT had begun surveying its merchants about new hours. DIOT’s own site still gave midnight to noon on October 16, 2026, and its notice board had no announcement of new hours, but of all the rows above, DIOT’s is the one most likely to change.

Can tourists buy at the Dongdaemun wholesale malls?

You can walk through, but plan to buy at the retail malls. The wholesale buildings are trading floors for shop owners: the council describes the district as a night fashion market visited by retailers and buyers as well as tourists, and Korea Textile News describes the night customers as retailers and merchandisers buying stock. No official page says whether a wholesale stall will sell one piece to a visitor; that is each merchant’s decision. In a 2017 MTN report, an official at Jeil Pyeonghwa Market, another wholesale building, said individuals buying single pieces “is not done here” and asked visitors not to ask prices.

If you still want to try, we suggest a Sunday to Thursday night between 9 p.m., an hour after opening, and midnight. Stay out of the way of porters and delivery bundles, and ask whether a stall sells one piece before you pick anything up. Take photos only with the merchant’s agreement, since the stock is their product line. For gifts, accessories and clothes in your size, shop nyunyu, Doota, Migliore or Hyundai Outlets.

When is the best time to shop Dongdaemun at night?

Go on a Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday evening. Those are the nights when every retail mall in the table is open (Migliore closes on Mondays, Hello apM on Tuesdays) and the wholesale buildings trade. Arrive around 6 p.m. and start with Hyundai Outlets or Dundun, which close at 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. Walk to the wholesale buildings on Majang-ro between 9 p.m. and midnight, after they have opened. Finish at Doota, open to midnight, then Migliore (2 a.m.) or nyunyu (5 a.m.). On Friday night only Designer Club and Nuzzon trade; on Saturday night none of the wholesale buildings above does.

How do you get a tax refund at Doota and Hyundai Outlets?

Show your passport when you pay, or claim at the mall’s refund point before you leave the building. The general rules, including the ₩15,000 minimum per receipt and the limits on immediate refunds, are in our tax refund guide.

  • Doota Mall. Every store takes part in tax refunds except food outlets and stores outside the scheme. You can take the refund off the price at the till by showing your passport, or ask the store for a tax refund form and claim cash in won at the 5th-floor desk or kiosk next to the information desk; that route needs your passport and a Visa, Mastercard, JCB or Amex card. The facilities page gives the desk’s hours as 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the kiosk’s as 10:30 a.m. to midnight. Doota’s page still quotes a ₩30,000 minimum and lower immediate-refund limits than the current law; the legal minimum is ₩15,000 per transaction, as our tax refund guide explains.
  • Hyundai Outlets Dongdaemun. The tax refund desk is on B1; purchases over ₩15,000 qualify, with a refund of up to 8 percent. The outlet is renovating its B2 to 2nd floors in phases through the end of 2026, Korea JoongAng Daily reported, and Hankyung Magazine reported that this includes an expanded tax refund and currency exchange lounge on B1, so the desk’s exact spot may change.

Where can you leave bags or change money at Dongdaemun?

Doota has lockers on the 5th floor, free for two hours and then ₩2,000 (small) or ₩4,000 (large) an hour, and Hyundai Outlets lists suitcase lockers on B2. Doota’s facilities page also gives currency exchange kiosks on the 1st floor and B2, open 10:30 a.m. to midnight. Hyundai Outlets’ B2 is part of its renovation, so if the lockers are not where its service facilities page puts them, ask at the service desk.

How do you get to Dongdaemun shopping by subway?

Get off at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Lines 2, 4 and 5); our T-money guide covers fares. Doota is off Exit 14 there, or Exit 8 of Dongdaemun Station on Lines 1 and 4. Hyundai Outlets is about 425 meters, a six-minute walk, from Exit 14, and about 385 meters, five minutes, from Dongdaemun Station Exit 8. Dundun is off Exits 11 and 12 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station. The Dongdaemun Tourist Information Center, in front of Exit 14, answers questions in English, Japanese and Chinese. Cheonggye 6-ga Underground Shopping Center, off Exit 14, sells clothing until 5 a.m.; our underground shopping guide has its hours and closing days, and the Euljiro tunnel that runs underground from Euljiro to this station.

For the wholesale buildings on Majang-ro and along Cheonggyecheon Stream, show the Korean name and address from the table above to a taxi driver, or put it into a map app.

If you stay past midnight, plan the ride back before you set out: our Naver Map and Kakao T guide covers calling a taxi with a foreign phone and card and Seoul’s late-night taxi surcharge.

What is DDP, and when is it open?

DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), the curved Zaha Hadid building across from Doota, has halls and facilities open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closed on January 1, Seollal and Chuseok Day. Opened on March 21, 2014, and run by the Seoul Design Foundation, it connects directly to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station and works as an open public space by day and, at night, as the screen for the Seoul Light DDP media art show. The DDP Welcome Center, on B2 at Oullim Square just to the right outside Exit 1 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, has information on current exhibitions and events, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For a daytime market, see our Namdaemun guide; it closes on Sundays.
