Can a Tourist Get Into a K-Pop Music Show in Seoul?
How audience seats work at KBS Music Bank, SBS Inkigayo, MBC Show! Music Core and Mnet M Countdown: where to apply, when the windows open, what it costs, the age limits, the ID you need, and which routes a short-term visitor can actually use. Checked against the broadcasters' own pages on November 2, 2026.
Yes, but every route is a lottery, and none can promise you a seat. The most promising free route is KBS Music Bank: seats are free, applications open at 9 a.m. Korea time (KST) on the Thursday eight days before each Friday show, and KBS lets overseas residents make an account by email, though it has not said whether its application form accepts a foreign phone number. Mnet M Countdown’s draws explicitly include foreign nationals aged 16 and over, but only paying Mnet Plus Premium subscribers can enter. MBC Show! Music Core gives seats to a viewer committee of Korean nationals, and MBC’s fan platform Muniverse runs a separate free lottery that states no eligibility rules. SBS Inkigayo in practice needs a Korean phone in your own name.
| Show | Airs | Where you apply | Cost | Age | Open to a visitor? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Music Bank (KBS2) | Friday, live 5:05 p.m. | KBS website, Korean | Free | 15+ | Possibly: an account can be made abroad by email, but KBS does not confirm the form accepts it or a non-Korean phone number |
| M Countdown (Mnet) | Thursday | Mnet Plus app | Premium subscription | 15+ Korean, 16+ foreign | Yes, as a Premium subscriber |
| Inkigayo (SBS) | Sunday, usually 3:20 p.m. | SBS play app only | No fee stated; extra entries 100 SBS points | 15+ | Rarely: needs a Korean phone in your own name |
| Show! Music Core (MBC) | Saturday, 3:20 p.m. | Viewer committee, or Muniverse votes | Free | Not stated | Viewer committee: Korean nationals only; Muniverse lottery: eligibility not stated |
How do you apply for Music Bank as a foreigner?
Apply on the Music Bank audience page from 9 a.m. KST on the Thursday eight days before the show until 11:59 p.m. KST the next day, Friday. Seats are free; every KBS public broadcast is free to attend. The page is in Korean, and the application guide says only KBS members can apply.
Make the KBS account before you fly. The KBS sign-up page has an “overseas resident, Korean or foreign” type, and it can only be used from a computer outside Korea, so if you are already in Korea you cannot create this account type. The member FAQ says this type exists for people who cannot use a Korean phone or certificate check, and you join by email verification. The other KBS member types need a Korean mobile phone in your own name or a Korean certificate check. KBS also offers sign-in with Google, Apple and other social accounts, but says these get only limited services, and does not say whether they can apply for audience seats. The FAQ also describes an overseas IP block setting that stops logins from outside Korea; if it is switched on, you cannot log in from abroad, so leave it off.
What KBS has not said. These pages do not say whether an overseas-resident account can submit the Music Bank form, or whether the form accepts a non-Korean phone number. Nor do they say whether an account made abroad can be used once you are in Korea, for results and the mobile ticket. The phone question matters, because the guide asks for the contact details where you will receive the result, and winners are sent a text message.
The timing for one show, following the example on KBS’s own notice:
| Step | When |
|---|---|
| Application window | Thursday 9 a.m. to Friday 11:59 p.m. KST, eight and seven days before the show |
| Results on the application page | Monday from 6 p.m. |
| Text message to winners | Thursday from 2 p.m., the day before |
| Show day | Friday |
Each application is for two seats, and you must enter your companion’s name when you apply; it cannot be changed after the results. KBS’s notice assumes two people and does not say whether you can apply alone. Both of you must arrive at the set time and show ID, so your companion needs their own original ID too; for a foreign visitor, that in practice means a passport. Seats are assigned at random. If you need a wheelchair seat, write that in the remarks field when you apply. If you win but cannot go, the guide lets you cancel up to 48 hours before the recording with no penalty.
Music Bank skips some Fridays, and KBS posts these under 알려드립니다 on the programme page.
Where is Music Bank recorded?
Music Bank records at the KBS New Wing or the KBS annex open hall, and the list of open rounds shows the venue for each one, so check it before you apply.
| Building | Address | Nearest exit |
|---|---|---|
| Main building and New Wing | 13 Yeouigongwon-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu | National Assembly Station (Line 9) Exit 4, 3 minutes’ walk |
| Annex | 359 Yeouidaebang-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu | Saetgang Station (Line 9) Exit 2, 1 minute’s walk |
Addresses and exits are from KBS’s directions page.
What do you need on Music Bank day?
Bring the original ID of the winner and of the companion; KBS does not accept copies or photos of ID. On show day you exchange either the mobile ticket or the winning text message, plus both IDs, for a numbered seat ticket. The mobile ticket is under the ticket icon in the KBS+ app or on KBS’s my-page after logging in, so the text message is not your only proof.
The notice gives these times:
- 2 p.m.: seat tickets handed out
- 4:10 to 4:40 p.m.: entry
- 5:05 p.m.: live broadcast starts, per the programme page; no one enters after it starts
Anyone under 15 is refused entry, with or without a ticket. Photos, video and audio recording are banned inside, and cameras may not be brought in; anyone caught has the files deleted, is removed and is barred from future recordings. Buying, selling or passing on a ticket is also banned.
Can foreigners apply for M Countdown?
Yes, if you subscribe to Mnet Plus Premium. Mnet Plus’s draws state eligibility as Korean nationals aged 15 and over and foreign nationals aged 16 and over, and only Premium subscribers can enter. You enter in the Mnet Plus app under the Vote tab, “Apply for Audience Admission”, and Mnet Plus contacts winners individually.
Recent draws, such as the September 28 post and an earlier one, each covered two Thursday shows and closed 11 days before the first. So subscribe and enter at least two weeks before your trip. Mnet Plus asks you to enter only if you can definitely attend. The venue is the CJ ENM Center in Sangam, which the Korean Mnet Plus site lists at 66 Sangamsan-ro, Mapo-gu.
The subscription is the only cost Mnet Plus names. Its Premium page showed US$3.99 a month on November 2, marked down from $6.99, charged through the app-store account you subscribe with. It renews monthly unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period, and the benefits stay tied to that store account. The posts say the full rules are inside the in-app entry, which we could not open without an account, so we cannot say here which ID M Countdown asks for, when to arrive, or when the recording starts.
Can a tourist get Inkigayo tickets?
Probably not without a Korean phone in your own name. SBS takes applications only in the SBS play app; its audience page says you cannot apply or check results on the website. The SBS FAQ says an Inkigayo application needs an account that has completed identity verification, and that SBS play cannot verify you without a mobile phone in your own name.
Where SBS’s pages disagree. The same FAQ says overseas users can sign up with email verification instead. It does not say whether that email account counts as verified for Inkigayo. The foreigner option on the SBS sign-up page sends its identity check to Korean mobile carriers (SKT, KT, LG U+) as of October 13. Do not build a trip around Inkigayo unless you have a Korean phone line in your own name.
If you can apply, this is how SBS describes a round:
| Step | When |
|---|---|
| Application window | Thursday to the following Wednesday (FAQ) |
| Results | Thursday afternoon, by app push only; the time can vary (June 10 notice) |
| Show day | Sunday |
SBS’s pages do not say which Sunday a given window is for. The other rules:
- Entries: one application per round per account; extra entries cost 100 SBS points each, up to 10, per the FAQ.
- Results: no text message is sent, per the audience page. If you miss the push, the June 10 notice says to check the application history in the app.
- Tickets: the application guide says one ticket admits one person, and no one under 15 enters, even with a parent. On the day, staff check your ID and press the app’s red “enter” button themselves. If you press it early, the ticket is void.
Inkigayo airs on Sundays, usually at 3:20 p.m., but SBS’s programme page lists times from 3:05 to 3:35 p.m. in recent weeks, plus one late-night episode at 12:05 a.m. (September 21), and some Sundays have no broadcast. SBS’s directions page lists the Deungchon-dong Open Hall at 442 Yangcheon-ro, Gangseo-gu, near Gayang Station on Line 9. Visit Seoul describes it as the hall SBS uses for music shows. Check the venue on your round in the app.
Can foreigners watch Show! Music Core?
Possibly, through MBC’s fan platform Muniverse; the viewer committee route is for Korean nationals only. MBC gives Show! Music Core audience tickets by weekly draw to members of its viewer committee who have voted. The recruitment page says the committee is open to Korean nationals in their teens and older, and members serve five weeks. Members vote on the committee vote page, and the show airs on Saturdays at 3:20 p.m., per the programme page.
The second route is Muniverse, MBC’s global fandom platform. Its WEEKLY M PICK vote doubles as a Show! Music Core audience lottery: 10 free Lumy buy one vote, votes are unlimited, and each vote earns one lottery entry. Muniverse posts these in English. In an earlier round, for the August 1 show, it announced the winners on X and contacted them by direct message. Neither post states nationality, age or ID rules, so we cannot say whether a visitor who wins can attend.
Which music show should a visitor try for?
Music Bank first. Make a KBS overseas-resident account before you fly and, from home, enter every Friday you will be in Seoul; the window closes seven days before each show. If the form rejects your account or your phone number, the paid M Countdown draw is the only route whose published rules explicitly include foreign nationals: subscribe and enter at least two weeks ahead. If you already vote on Muniverse, its Show! Music Core lottery costs nothing to enter, though its eligibility rules are not published. Take your passport to any recording.
If you would rather have a seat you can buy, our guide to K-pop concert tickets in Korea covers the global ticket sites.
